PEOs Dodge Not 1 but 2 Bullets in Florida

The Florida legislative session ended last week with very good news for our industry!  See the below message sent to us from our Florida PEO Lobbyist, David Daniel.

Florida PEO Legislative Update – End of Session

By David Daniel, Florida PEO Lobbyist

Although we faced serious challenges, the PEO Industry had a successful Legislative Session.

Board of Employee Leasing Companies

The DBPR agency bill SB 1335 passed into law and did not include language eliminating an appointed Board of Employee Leasing Companies.

When filed, this bill included a provision that proposed eliminating the Board of Employee Leasing Companies. As proposed, the DBPR staff would make all regulatory decisions.

Our goal was to delicately handle this situation with DBPR to both preserve the current board structure and get new applicants appointed to the board and foster a long-term partnership with DBPR.

Now that Legislative Session is completed we will work with the DBPR and the Governor’s Office to have appointments made to the Board of Employee Leasing Companies.

Workers Compensation Liability shift - DID NOT BECOME LAW

SB 1658 - Workers’ Compensation Insurance for Employee Leasing Companies by Sen. Perry was never on the agenda for its first committee. It did not move after it was filed and assigned to committees on January 11th.

I attached a complete tracking report for all the legislation I’ve been tracking on behalf of the PEO industry.
