NAPEO CEO Pat Cleary to Testify at Congressional Hearing on ERTC Delays
NAPEO President & CEO Pat Cleary will testify about the impact of the ERTC backlog on small and mid-size businesses during a House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Oversight hearing on Thursday, July 27.
In addition to being a rare opportunity to speak directly with members of Congress about the significant harm the delay in processing ERTC claims is having on businesses across the county, it’s also an important recognition of the work NAPEO and the industry have been doing as the voice of small and mid-sized businesses, to raise the alarm about the need to address the huge backlog of ERTC claims.
For the past year, we have been asking Congress to pressure the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to clear out the backlog of Employment Retention Credit (ERTC) claims. To date, NAPEO members have sent nearly 500 letters to their elected representative and senators, while our clients have sent an additional 1,336 letters. In addition, more than 70 NAPEO members visited their congressional offices during PEO Capitol Hill Day in May. All had the same message: the backlog of ERTC claims is harming our nation’s small businesses. It needs to be fixed.
We would also urge you and your clients to submit a statement for the hearing record. You can do so by emailing them to WMSubmission@mail.house.gov. Please follow the instructions on the committee website when submitting your comments. This is your chance to make your voice heard, especially as the ERTC backlog remains at an inexcusably high level.
