Michigan Adopts Legislation Impacting the PEO Industry

Is your current PEO licensed in the State of Michigan? Beginning September 1, 2012, a person shall not provide, advertise, or otherwise hold itself out as providing professional employer services in the state of Michigan unless licensed under Act 370 of 2012.  This new legislation, which was modeled after many other states that have a similar law, provides a consistent framework for regulation and clarifies how PEOs operate in Michigan. Potential and current clients of PEOs are set to receive added assurance from this new legislation.  With the new Act requiring audited financial statements and net worth requirements, among many others, clients are given an extra layer of comfort knowing they can choose a PEO with a healthy financial and operational history.
