Data Breaches Are Hitting Closer to Home, Causing Discord.io to Announce Closure
Discord.io, a third-party service that offers custom URL invites for Discord servers, was the victim of a large data breach. The service supports Discord, the popular instant messaging and VoIP social platform that is heavily used by the gaming community, but also utilized by people with other interests to discuss and exchange information. Not only did the hacker involved steal the data of approximately 760,000 users, but they’ve also posted a sample of the data onto Breached Forums, advertising to potential buyers. This led to the third-party putting a halt on “all operations for the foreseeable future”.
Talk about business interruption.
Did you know that property policies do not always contemplate business interruption due to a cyber peril?
Discord.io has provided a list of information pertaining to what is and is not included in the data breach. The list can be found in the following communication: https://discord.io/
What this brings to mind for me is the following:
Cyber threats are creeping closer, affecting the lives and businesses of people you may know.
Business Interruption and reputational harm Loss play a role in this cyber incident.
It's not a matter of "If", But "when". Was Discord.io prepared with a cyber incident response plan?
Was Discord.io responsibly protecting private information on their cyber posture? Were they aware of the Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVEs) associated with their network?
Are you aware of the CVEs associated with your PEO's domain and/or network? Or those of your SMB client companies?
If not, and you'd like to learn more about how you can stay on top of the aforementioned exposures, click this link here.
