Attorney General Ashley Moody a Big Hit at FAPEO’s Legislative Summit

FAPEO kicked of 2023 in Tallahassee on February 6th with updates from industry leaders such as Mike Miller, Torben Madson, Nick Kapiotis and Kristen Baldwin who discussed a wide range of topics including ERTC, Employer of Record (EOR) and the recent NCCI update to its basic manual regarding certificates of insurance regulations for contractors (Paul Hughes will comment on the NCCI ruling via another post).

Additionally we heard from Mark Wilson, CEO of the Florida Chamber of Commerce, who shared amazing statistics regarding the strength of Florida’s economy to include:

  • Population Growth

    • Florida added more than 400,000 new residents last year and will continue to add on average 1,000 net new residents per day.  Of the net new residents, half come from other states while the other half make their way to Florida from other countries

    • Florida grew +1.9% from 2021-2022 which led the nation.  This was the first time in 65 years that Florida has ranked #1 in population growth.

    • By 3030, the state will add another +3.5M more residents

  • Job Growth – Florida continues to be one of the leading job creator states in the country and will generate more than 250,000 new jobs in 2023

Finally, Attorney General Ashley Moody gave a passionate and positive speech regarding her goals and objectives during her 2nd term that included cracking down on the fentanyl epidemic in Florida.  Shockingly, fentanyl is the number 1 killer of Floridians, between the ages of 18 and 45.  She also spoke about the serious human trafficking issue in Florida and her plan to severely punish the predators who target and victimize minors for their own personal gain.  While her priorities do not directly impact the positive progress of the PEO space, she is clearly focused on making Florida a safe place to live which ultimately effects every small business.

Thanks to Robert Skrob and Suzanne Hurst of FAPEO for making the trip to Tallahassee worth it!”
