Staffing Workers obtain Bill of Rights in Mass - Bravo
LAWRENCE, Mass. (AP) — Advocates will travel throughout Massachusetts to raise awareness about a new state law that offers new protections to temporary workers.
The Temporary Worker’s Right to Know Law goes into effect Thursday. To highlight the new law, a van-load of workers and community members plan to travel around the state.
The law offers protections to the approximately 65,000 workers who work temporary, low-wage jobs in Massachusetts.
Organizers plan to make stops in Lawrence, New Bedford, Lynn and Chelsea to educate workers on the law.
Under the new law, agencies will be required to reimburse a temporary worker who is sent to a worksite when no jobs are available there. It also creates a bill of rights for temporary employees, requiring the staffing agencies to disclose wages, worker’s compensation carrier and other basic information.
