10 Trends to Be on the Lookout for in 2024: Article Review
In honor of October being Cybersecurity Awareness Month, I've chosen to review an article that aims to bring awareness to the 10 biggest trends in Cybersecurity to be aware of in the coming year. The 10 trends are as follows:
The Cyber Security Skills Crunch
Generative AI Adopted on Both Sides of the Battle
Next-Level Phishing Attacks
Cyber Security In The Boardroom
IoT Cyber Attacks
Cyber Resilience - Beyond Cyber Security
Less Than Zero Trust
Cyber Warfare And State-Sponsored Cyber Attacks
Soft Skills Becoming Increasingly Essential For Cyber Security Professionals
Cyber Security Regulations
My key takeaways are the following:
The shortage of cyber security professionals with the necessary skills to protect organizations is predicted to continue into 2024. Expect to see salary increases for those with capable skills as well as emphasis on training and skill development.
The 'Goodies' and the 'Baddies' will both be utilizing AI in new capacities as the technology continues to progress. From real-time anomaly detection to deepfake videos that are nearly indistinguishable from reality, AI's powerful capabilities will be a focus of 2024.
AI will provide bad actors with tools capable of easily tricking unsuspecting or untrained employees. Education and ongoing training to bolster the awareness of employees in organizations will be crucial.
Cybersecurity needs to be discussed at length by executives. Profits should be followed by protection in executive board strategy meeting agendas.
With geopolitical conflicts on the rise, governments, and organizations around the world are implementing regulations to minimize the risk posed to their national security. In this digital age, even the democratic process can be tampered with to produce political outcomes that do not reflect the Will of The People.
